One-Hour: World War Z

Synopsis: What is World War Z, if not Left 4 Dead with fancier graphics? The formula is essentially the same; four survivors of a zombie apocalypse trying to make it through levels of zombie hordes. I played and loved both Left 4 Dead games, so I figured I’d enjoy this as well – and I was right. Each level has its own primary and secondary objectives (protect an asset, blow something up, escort survivors, etc.), filled with lots of zombie killing. The game focuses on replayability by leveling up items and classes and randomizing some events. I’ve read elsewhere that people generally don’t love WWZ, but I’m not sure I get the hate. Sure it uses the L4D formula, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a lot of fun.

What I like: If you’ve played an FPS, easy to pick up and play. Easy to play online with friends, or offline solo. The graphics are fantastic. Hordes of hundreds of zombies appearing in waves. Levels take about 15-25 minutes to clear, perfect if you’re limited for time.

What I don’t like: The AI is a bit useless in certain game modes (like Horde). The interface can be a bit confusing at times. Works my graphics card pretty hard, but my graphics card (GeForce 1060) is a bit dated so that’s not surprising.

Would I buy it again?: Yes
